Marisa Craig DVM
Veterinarian and Owner
Marisa lives in McDonough with her husband Scott and two children Hailey and Reed. They enjoy spending weekends on Jackson Lake. When not working or at the lake, Marisa enjoys working on the family farm with her Belted Galloway cows and her son’s show cows. She has golden retrievers, a shih tzu, a cat, and a herd of "oreo" cows. Marisa was born in Ohio, but moved to Atlanta in 1983. She attended the University of Georgia and received her bachelor's degree in animal health in 1994 and her DVM in 1997. While at UGA, she rode horses on the UGA Equestrian Team. She moved to McDonough after graduation. She opened Lake Dow Animal Hospital in 2008.
Layla Smith DVM
Layla is a native of Fayetteville. She recieved a bachlor's degree from University of Georgia in biological sciences in 2004. After a few years working and finishing a masters degree in public health, she attended Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine, and recieved her degree in 2014. When not working, she enjoys spending time with her bassett hound, pit bull, reading, and traveling.
Meredith started working at Lake Dow Animal Hospital shortly after it opened in 2008 as a high school student. She has stayed with us and advanced from kennel assistant to her current position as veterinary assistant. She has a yorkie named Jasmine and a baby blue tongue skink lizard. Her favorite activities include four wheeling and kayaking.
After graduating with an associates degree in Secretarial Law from Braelin College, Jennifer worked in the legal field for six years. Her passion has always been caring for animals and she decided to work in veterinary medicine as a technician in 1999. She has over seventeen years in experience, and has been with Lake Dow Animal Hospital since 2010. She strives to keep our patients not only healthy but happy when they visit. She shares her home with two beautiful cats, Nina and Nelly, that she rescued. In her spare time, she enjoys movies, music, cooking, and kickboxing.
Miranda has been working at Lake Dow Animal Hospital since the summer of 2014. She recently graduated from Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College with a major in biology and hopes to attend vet school in the fall. She enjoys spending time with her friends and family and dog Kaizer.
Hailey is the daughter of Dr. Marisa Craig. She is 19 years old and is a Junior at Berry College studying pre-veterinary medicine. She has officially been working here since April 2017, but has always been hanging around the clinic. She plans on going to graduate school to become a Veterinarian and one day taking over the family business.
In Loving Memory of Christina Norton
Christina began at Lake Dow Animal Hospital as a high school intern in 2009. She stayed with us after high school and advanced from kennel assitant to receptionist. Christina passed away July 2020 in a tragic accident leaving behind her husband Chase, her daughters Lyleigh and Scarlett , her stepson Brayden, parents, sisters, and many others who loved her.
